How to find a techreport or an article

• Query a WAIS database using keywords or author names
  • comp.doc.techreports
  • cs-techreport-abstracts
  • Eichmann's bibliographic database

• Unified Computer Science TR Index

• Consult the Turing Institute Library
  you'll need a password to login.

To obtain a paper through the net:

• Many institutions make reports available through anonymous FTP.
  • Find an archive site at the institution by querying the cs-techreport-archives database.
  • Look it up in the list of Computer Science Technical Reports Archive Sites and follow the corresponding hypertext link.
  • Guess a host name e.g. ftp.cs.university.ca, or just cs.university.ca
  Look for a directory like pub/techreports or pub/reports or something like that.

• Visit the World Wide Web server at their site
  
  • Look for it in the list of registered servers
  Many sites are now on the web. If you know at what institution the author works, you should try to visit their WWW server. Somewhere on that server you may find a pointer to publications.

• Visit the Gopher server at their site
  
  • Look for it in the list of known gopher servers
