			Call for Papers

Project-Oriented Databases and Knowledge Bases in Genome Research
Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences-28
		Biotechnology Computing Track
		Maui, Hawaii, January 3-6, 1995

Co-chair: Toshihisa Takagi, Human Genome Center, University of Tokyo,
Tokyo, Japan

The 28th annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences
(HICSS-28) announces a call for papers for the Biotechnology Computing
Minitrack on the topic of Project-Oriented Databases and Knowledge
Bases in Genome Research. This minitrack will focus on
database/knowledge base tools and technologies that support the
management of data/knowledge in the databases/knowledge bases for
specific research groups or purposes, e.g., E.coli DB, C.elegans DB,
Drosophila DB, Promoter DB, cDNA DB, Metabolism KB, Motif Dictionary,
etc. In this minitrack, the following issues will be discussed:

o What kinds of data should be stored in the project-oriented DBs.
o How these data or knowledge should be represented.
o What DB and network technologies are necessary for
    project-oriented DBs and KBs.

In addition, the minitrack will provide the necessary technology to
bridge public and specific databases and exchange data between
specific databases. The topics of this minitrack include but not are
limited to:

  o Organism specific databases
o Community databases for specialized research groups
  o Laboratory notebooks
o Data management system supporting experiments
  o Networking and distributed databases
  o Links between different databases
  o Biological function knowledge bases
o Knowledge representation for biological functions
o Data models and data structures for genome data

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Manuscripts should be 22-26 typewritten, double-spaced pages in 10 or
12 point type. Please do not send submissions significantly longer or
shorter. Each manuscript will be refereed by more than three
reviewers. Manuscripts should include a title page that identifies the
title of the paper, the full name(s) of the author(s), affiliation(s),
complete mailing and electronic address(es), telephone number(s) and a
300-word abstract of the paper.

DEADLINES:

o Six copies of full manuscript must be received by June 15, 1994
o Notification of accepted papers will be sent by August 31, 1994
o Accepted camera-ready manuscripts must be received by October 1, 1994
