 | Drew Barrymore as Harley Quinn.
Not my preferred casting (I think she looks right for the role, I'm not sure she could play the role right.
This was my first manip, and I still have a soft spot in my heart for it
(matching the soft spot in my head, presumably). The only major problem I have with this one is that
the highlights on Harl's costume are to sharp and bright. (There's a few other flaws, but that's the major one.)
Otherwise, I really like this image.
|
 | Phoenix of the X-Men. Uneven, but not bad. The background's
too generic to work. There's also a problem that's common to many of my early manips... the painty look of the costume
clashes with the smoothness of the rest of the image. Amazingly, I never noticed that until it was pointed out to me...
(Thanks again for that, Sneha.)
|
 | Spark of the Legion of Superheroes. Good casting,
good costuming, same sort of problems with the background as for Phoenix. The head was taken from a different photo
than the body (this is what's called "Frankensteining") and, unfortunately, it shows. Still, I think this is pretty good.
|
 | ...but this is better. Saturn Girl of
the LSH. The face was Frankensteined and, again, it shows (with the angle the head's at, her ear oughta be showing). Ah,
well. The costuming's somewhat better than on the previous couple, though, and I rather like the simple background.
|
 | Storm of the X-Men. The hair's ugly, I like the
rest. The background's nothing special, but I like the lightning effect. And that's all I got to say about that!
|
 | Christina Ricci as Alita/Gally from
Battle Angel. More Frankensteining here, but I think it looks a bit better than elsewhere.
|
 | Milla Jovovich as
X-Statix's Dead Girl. Great pose, great background, the whole thing looks painty (rather than just the character). The
only problem I have with this one is the way I did the logo. This was at
one point my favourite manip, and I still love it.
|
 | Jennifer Love Hewitt as Blink of the eXiles. I
was working on this since before I started on Dead Girl. Also quite a good piece. The hand was Frankensteined on, but
I think it looks better than most examples of that particular technique. (Not perfect, but pretty good.) What I dislike
here is the rather lame way I did her dart, and the utter lack of lighting concessions to it (it's glowing, which should
show on her clothing).
|
 | Alyssa Milano as X-Statix's Venus Dee Milo.
A number of people think this is my best piece. I prefer my Dead Girl, but I do think this is very well done (And the
logo's considerably better). I'm not entirely happy with the background. It looks good, but I wanted something more appropriate
for the character. Ah, well.
|
 | Everyone's favourite Assassin, Ms. Elektra Natchios. The leg's a bit ugly,
otherwise I really like this. The background's one of my favourites, next to that for Dead Girl; I particularly love the blood
splatters on the sign.
|
 | Shikari of the LSH (the modern version of Dawnstar).
I really like the costuming here, as well as her wings. And I really like the hair. I'm not happy with the background, though:
it should be darker and probably a bit foggier (to make it look further off).
|
 | Rose Red (Britanny Murphy) and Snow White
(Juliette Binoche) from Fables, Bill Willingham's Vertigo book about fairy tale characters living in modern-day New York. (This is an
awesome series which everyone needs to read. Now.) I felt like a change from the spandex set and so decided to do something a bit different.
The jewelry's a bit iffy, otherwise I quite like this.
|
 | The current incarnation of Batgirl (Mark III if I
count them right, but with comics who can say?) I dislike the boots and cape here, the rest's okay. I really like the lighting, or lack
thereof. When I first did this, I was very proud of it. Now I'm a bit less enthused, but I still think its a good piece.
|
 | Winona Ryder as X-Force's late, lamented Edie Sawyer, aka U-Go
Girl. My favourite character in the series, so of course they had to kill her off... I would have liked to have done more for the background,
but I think the teleportation vortex thingy works quite well. Another of my favourites.
|
 | A second version of my favourite character,
Dr. Harleen Quinzell. This is Drew Barrymore again, and it's sooo
much better than my first try. And my first try was quite good. This is my
new absolute #1 favourite manip ever.
|
 | A detail (sort of) from the previous pic. This is Harley's
desk, just behind her in the first pic, with her gun and a couple photos on
it. I was unhappy at the loss of detail on the photo in the first pic, so I
decided to do another one. I added another photo to the pic and tried (not
entirely successfully) to go for more of a photorealistic look than usual.
Here we have Drew Barrymore as Harley, Laetitia Casta as Poison Ivy, and a
greatly altered Willem Dafoe as the Joker.
|
 | Jaime Pressley as Emma Frost in her diamond form. Yes, I
realize its apparently supposed to be diamond "skin", but if she got
shattered in the Murder at the Mansion storyline, she really
must be all diamond, no? This was "fun" (ie, hellishly difficult) to do, but
I think it was well worth it.
|
 | Jaime Pressley as Emma Frost (v. 2.0). A friend pointed
out some incisive critiques of the first version, and suggested some very
useful changes. I decided to redo the piece (not something I usually do).
This is, indeed, a huge improvement. (Huge in the same sense as Andre the
Giant, I mean. ie, really huge.)

More to come... eventually.
